ha ha he he ho ho we're in summer
so after all my moaning in my last post about taking my guitar with me, i since begrudgingly decided that it was more sensible to take clothes, and my poor guitar has stayed home. its probably getting very lonely. the upshot is that when i get to london i get to buy a new guitar, and in the meantime terence will lend me a guitar in new york.
so we flew to LA, which was long and uncomfortable, but survivable. watched the start of four movies, but none could hold my attention, so switched to shorter tv shows. we got to LA and Dan and Vic were there to drive us down to San Diego. we arrived and pretty much went straight to the beach. it felt so great to be swimming at a sunny beach after being in the middle of winter the day before. the waves were wavy, the sand was sandy, and the fun was funny.
today we did more swimming, this time at a different beach (La Jolla Cove) which had lots of friendly fish, show-off seals, and large beaked pelicans. we then tried to swim out to a buoy (pronounced 'boo-ey') but my unfitness slowed team swim down and we gave up midway. still swam enough to justify a feeling of righteous laziness for the rest of the day - made the martini and mexican kai go down a treat too.
san diego is fascinating anthropologically. everything is big and designed to be consumed and spat out - food portions, houses, cars, shops - everything is bigger and brighter than needed. but at the same time its all excessively pretty.
more tomorrow...
