Clean Kitchen

So on Thursday the Plastic Kitchen, featuring our new guitarist Bish dazzled the masses at Bodega. It was supposed to be the premier screening on my music video to NYC, but bloody bodega being the unorganised confusion they are could get the bg screen work but couldn't figure out how to get the sound to play. so no screening. but the video does look damn good and will be on youtube very soon. maybe even sooner (but not soon enough because i want to show you now).

the kitchen gig went great, bish adds new colour and fun to our sound and we played lot of new songs, and a fun cover of Not An Addict by K's Choice, a song which suits Cilla's voice perfectly.

our set was followed by two noise keyboard acts and then some luch pop from the Actualities, but the sound wasn't mixed very well so it was hard to enjoy anyone's music much.

the next day i went to pick up some gear from the pub, and the cleaner asked me if it had been a fun show because the bar was much less dirty and sticky than it normally is after a show. in my years playing gigs i've been accused of lots of things but never been accused of being too clean or appealing to non-sticky people. i wonder if we should stick that on our press release:

"The Plastic Kitchen has a sound so clean the floor shines" - The Cleaner from Bodega.

irrational fear of crocs

for those of you who remember pointless obscure tv shows like i do, you may remember Ep 7 of Series One of BBC show Tomorrow People (ok, i admit, i had to use wikipedia to find out what episode it was) called Living Skins. Here's the plot summary on nerds'r'us (well actually its from gopha.net): Mike and Hsui Tai (two of the tomorrow people, a group of Homo Superior, the next stage of evolution of humans) are beguiled by the latest fashion craze -- bubbleskin jumpsuits. Only hours after purchasing the jumpsuits, they begin to exhibit strange behavior. Mike becomes so attached to his new clothes, that he tries to forcibly put one on Elizabeth. Meanwhile back at the clothing shop we discover that the jumpsuits are actually alien parasites that have taken the form of jumpsuits. The Ballboids have an evil plan to take over the minds and bodies of the entire Earth population. The Tomorrow People realize the dastardly plan when one of the jumpsuits comes alive and attacks Andrew. John, who is suffering a nasty head cold, is the only one the jumpsuits won't go near. It's up to him to come up with a plan...

anyone else but me wonder if Crocs, those ugly smelly rubber gardening shoes that everyone and their dog seem to be wearing are a similar weapon of evil extraterristerial shoe salesmen.

ok, i'm insane.

but speaking of insane, i have just finished writing a new song all about mandrakes, and i'll be debuting it at my next gig this Friday at Adelaide Bar, Adelaide Rd, 9pm.

our first band contract

So last night the Plastic Kitchen were jamming and rehearsing for our next gig (Bodega 24 May) and our band has morphed from a loose 3 piece to adding to more guitarists to create a sort of lovely wall of blues. then last night a friend of Cilla's came for a jam too and we were rocking out with four guitars, bass and drums. we sounded great, and so different to how we'd sounded before. next gig you'll hear some fine new tunes, some reworkings of old songs, and even an unexpected Belgium cover.

Anyhoo, we were jamming away when two guys in uniform showed up. apparently some neighbour had called noise control on us. the noise control guys were remarkably nice about it all, allowing us to play one more song while they did the paperwork - i guess they're so used to loud drunk hoons that the manners of the kitchen took them by surprise. anyway they wrote out a warning for the band which said we couldn't make noise at that address again for the next 72 hours and left us in peace. Ok, so its not quite a record deal, but it is the first official document made out to the Plastic Kitchen. more documentation and world domination can't be far off.

and apologies if you were the neighbour in Lyall Bay who found us too loud. next week we'll terrorise Brooklyn instead.
