Wellytown Wide Tour

So Friday i played at the Adelaide in front of an EddieVedderWannabe and his drunk parents. Then Saturday night i played at the town hall, but i've already raved about that. Sunday i was looking for some downtime. But then i got a call from Pete Baillie asking me to play at the San Francisco Bath House Summer Season Acoustic Lounge. So three gigs in three nights. that's paying my dues. unfortunately none of the gigs paid a cent, so monday morning i was back at the day job.

but seriously, Sunday arvo gig was fun because it was the first time i'd played with kali since Feb. It was a wee bit rusty, but still good fun. I love kali's songs (as well as us playing Pooey, she also played two of her songs solo), and she makes my songs so much more interesting. If only we had more time to work on more songs. One day.

And speaking of exciting, the plastic kitchen are hopefully back for their first gig since August - look for us at Tupelo 14th December. Woo and Hoo.

malaria hysteria

how come you can say something is 'the shit' and it means its really cool, but if you say its 'the crap' or 'the poo' or 'the fecies' - well it doesn't have the same connotations.

anyway, speaking of holy shit, last night i played at the Wellington Town Hall. Last night was Super Sessions, a giant charity show at the town hall featuring some of Wellytown's best bands - Phoenix Foundation, Little Bushman, Open Souls, Odessa, Twinset, and the Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra. and due to a chance meeting with the organiser Dion Howard the week before the show, i was asked to play 2 songs between bands setting up. Needless to say i was more nervous than a bride on her wedding night who was trying to conceal a particularly embarrasing birth mark but once i got up on stage it felt great. the crowd were there for a good time and cheering all the silliness i threw at them (Blood on my Shoe and Jet Pack). and best of all, it was all for a good cause. the huge amount of money that dion and his peeps raised last night will go to help fight malaria around the world. dirty old mosquitos, we got you this time.

shut the ffff up

so there is a letter in today's dom post by a woman called Sarah McLaughlin, who i assume isn't the singer (although at times i also wish she would shut the ffff up). she wrote to the paper complaining that she is a resident in the apartment building next to the Southern Cross Garden Bar and is forced to "endure the drunkenness of the patrons without even being on the premises. Chanting, yelling and whooping cause me frequent sleeplessness..." she goes on in the same vein for paragraphs. YOU STUPID WOMAN! WHY RENT A FLAT IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING WHICH WAS BUILT IN THE CARPARK OF A PUB IF YOU DON'T LIKE BEING NEAR DRUNK PEOPLE. GO live in the suburbs and be soothed to sleep by the gentle hum of boy racers.

there, said it. over it now.
