Clay

Once upon a wet raincloud there was a miserable lump of clay. He lived in a dark cave surrounded by a blinding fog of loneliness. One day the lump of clay decided he needed to leave his cave and go looking for happiness. And off he went.

The lump of clay came to a forest. "Maybe I'll be able to find happiness if I look here" thought the lump of clay. But he had not walked far into the forest before there was nothing to see but rows and rows of majestic trees. "How am I supposed to find happiness when all these trees are in my way?" thought the lump of clay and pushed through the thick branches, scraping himself along the way.

Soon the lump of clay came upon a nest of birds. All the birds were singing their songs in a loud chorus. "How am I supposed to find happiness when all these birds are making such a distracting racket? thought the lump of clay and pushed past the nest, knocking it over and breaking their eggs on the way.

Soon the lump of clay came to a river which was filled with people swimming and laughing. They called for the lump of clay to come swim with them. "I have no time to swim" replied the lump of clay "I Have To Go Find Happiness"

Just past the river, the lump of clay met a child crying because he was lost. He asked the lump of clay to give him a hug and help him find his mum. "I have no time to hug you or help you" replied the lump of clay, who by now was getting very grumpy with all these distractions "I HAVE TO GO FIND HAPPINESS"

And the lump of clay searched the entire forest for happiness. Then he searched the entire city for happiness. Then he searched the entire country for happiness. But all he found were distractions that blocked his view so he couldn't look for happiness. In the end the lump of clay gave up and returned to his dark cave. And he is there still.

wouldn't it be nice

you know that ad for cadbury chocolate where the world is chocolate and they all eat everything. i wonder if that is how termites see our world...

anyway, great review of my cd in the dominion post on Friday 5 May:

Das Ben's Million Miles Away is equal parts The Violent Femmes meets Jonathan Richmond or Billy Bragg. Wellington's Ben Sedley wields his acoustic guitar with the punk aesthetic of a Ramone as he bemoans why the technology he imagined as a kid hasn't materialised (Jet Pack) while elsewhere he ponders what he's done wrong in relationships (Blood on my Shoes). At times he's joined by a band for several rapid-fire tracks with loads of references to his home town. It's got a nice lo-fi feel with NYC and Planet Me showcasing Sedley's lyrical gift.
