perfect

so this weekend, the plastic kitchen finished mixing 3 songs, and they sound great. its quite exciting. hopefully within a few days i'll put them online (www.mp3.com.au), so watch this space. and hopefuly hopefully we're get organised enough to do a gig one day soon.

and on sunday pete baillie and i had a jam, and he's now going to do some additional guitaring for me at my gig at Valve Wed July 6 and as a bonus, we'll play a bunch of the songs we've rehearsed this Thursday June 23 at Bluenote. come check it out.

in other news, today's paper reported that in China they have found a dog with 6 legs and 2 penises. darwin would be very excited. female dogs in china however may be running scared.

The Master Blaster

i've said it before, but i'll say it again. i love the bridge of sighs. and i'm not just saying that because they're great friends. i just really love the sound they make, and on tuesday they played a great gig at indigo, at the particularly silly time of 11pm. nice work mark and kali. check out their stuff here

in other exciting news, i got the mastered version of my cd back yesterday, and it sounds great. now i need to get it pressed so you can all hear it. hopefully i'll get some songs online soon too.

and Wedneday June 6 - Das Ben at Valve, opening for Psionic.

best music video ever

watched the michael jackson verdict this morning on telly. best music video ever. in thriller video michael rose from the dead, rising from a kiddie fiddling trial - unbeatable. how will any pop star ever top this? necrophilia?

to quote the dandy warhols:
"when michael jackson dies, we're covering blackbird"

whelming

you can be overwhelmed and underwhelmed, but can you be whelmed?

(hey, i just looked it up on dictionary.com and yes you can be whelmed, but it means to be submerged in water).

but anyway, i'm rambling. filling in time whilst excited because as i'm typing this, stevie g and mike are a few blocks away mastering my cd. i'll get to hear the finished cd tomorrow. woohoo.

time to look for places to get the disc pressed and to start building up a list of people to send out copies to (i.e. magazines, record labels etc). ideas?

won't you come and play in my plastic kitchen

so plastic kitchen did some recordings last night. plastic kitchen is a band i've been jamming with for a while, i'm playing bass again and loving it (except my bass died this week, so it will need some TLC), Cindy Smith on drums, and Cilla Scott on guitar and vocals. we're still rough as guts, bordering on high school garage band, but its fun to hear the improvements we make each week. we've written some songs, which certainly have the potential to get stuck in your head for a long time, and gradually we're even getting the hang of starting and stopping in the same places and knowing what each other is doing. i'm also enjoying writing songs on a bass again, and have written a new song called Dog:

You look at me like i'm the only one
but get so excited when others come along
you let me know that you wanna go out
but can i trust you when we're out and about

you're a dog, so i'll treat you like one...

it ain't shakespeare, but then neither was a lot of shakespeare, and Cilla loves singing it, and her dog Finn (whose tail also acts as our metronome, which is why our timing is so 'interesting') loves us singing about him, and we're sure he's been down the road telling all his mates about it.

anyway, recording, why? good bloody question. guess we wanna hear what we sound like at this early stage, and maybe even have one or two songs good enough to give to pubs to ask for gigs. we recorded 3 songs and they're messier than my handwriting, but it was fun, and it's a start.

once cilla has added vocals and they've been mixed, maybe i'll even put a song or two online. we'll see...
